Planning a Food Drive
Steps to ensure success:
1. |
Select a coordinator or a coordinating committee. |
2. |
Establish a goal for the amount of food. |
3. |
Create publicity utilizing newsletters, memos, E-Mails, bulletins, flyers, posters, payroll inserts, etc. |
4. |
Be specific in terms of the "most needed food items". |
5. |
Be creative in your planning. For example, select a theme such as “Christmas in April”; identify theme days such as “Macaroni Monday”; or request a food donation as admission to a special event. |
6. |
Encourage competition between departments or multiple sites. |
7. |
Locate decorated receptacles in a visible and heavily traveled areas. |
8. |
Provide decorated bags for participants to return with donated items. |
9. |
Provide regular reminders and progress reports regarding the food drive. |
10. |
Publicize the results of the food drive, acknowledging those most responsible for its success. |
11. |
Request matching contributions of food, supplies, or money from your employer. |
