Orange County Food Bank’s
9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament

On October 7th the Orange County Food Bank hosted its 9th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Tustin Ranch golf course. Several representatives from local Orange County companies attended the event including Barbara Stickler, who works for the NALC Branch 1100, Joel Tharwachter, Jim Phillips, Ken Maylones and Doug Clark of the Operating Engineers, who have been participating in this golf tournament for the past 5 years.

At Noon the golfers lined up in their carts before hitting the course. As the crowd prepared it was evident that this would be more than just any average golf tournament.  It would stand as a reminder that a little can go a long way.  The food bank was able to raise $13,101 which will be attributed towards food distribution throughout the holiday season. The funding will increase the Food Banks’ capacity to bring back more food.  This will allow the Food Bank to feed an estimated 113,880 low-income older adults and families with children in Orange County.

Let’s not forget that this was a friendly competition for a great cause, taking first place was Don Crandall, Mark Brodersen and Todd Sessions. Alex Tran, Planner at Community Action Partnership of Orange County, won closest to the pin. Jerry Kavli, of the Jerry Kavli  and Family, won the putting contest and Cedric Ferrell, Managing Partner of The Entrepreneur’s Source, won the longest drive.

This year we had an outstanding number of sponsors including United Health Care, Rose, Klein, Marius, SCIFTS, Lathers Local No. 440, OC Musicians Union, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 324, National Associated of Letter Carriers Branch 1100, Eagle Community Credit Union, Jerry Kavli and Family, Operating Engineers, Office Max, Sams, Walmart of Long Beach and CO-OP Financial.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s 9th annual Charity Golf Tournament making it a remarkable and successful event.
